- The date for Michael's birth on his birth certificate is 4 Nov 1854 [recorded 11 Dec 1854], but it conflicts with his birth date of 19 August 1854 recorded in the St. Patrick's, Livesey Church, baptism records. If he had been born 4 November 1854 as the birth certificate records, he could not have been baptized several months earlier. The baptism record cites his birth as 19 Aug 1854, and baptism on 27 August 1854. One explanation for this discrepancy is that sometimes a fee had to be paid to civilly record a birth, and the birth had to be recorded within a short period of time or an extra fee was assessed. Maybe his parents could not immediately pay the fee, so adjusted his birth date to appear to be in compliance when they did record it.
When Michael died on 11 July 1864, he was reported to be 9 years, 11 months, which would make his calculated birth date 11 August 1854. Thus, the baptism record of his birth date is most likely the accurate date of his birth.
